April 2022 News Round Up

March 18, 2021
This year has been tough and we couldn't have done it without outstanding Elks. Please join me in Congratulating the following Elks who were recognized at this year's awards ceremony.
Leslie Williams - Elk of the Year
(our first ever female Elk of the year! It's especially fitting that this ceremony took place during Women's History Month)
Kelly Smith & Don Gossard
Both of these outstanding Elks received Special Service Awards for everything they've done this year.
Heather Beal, our Loyal Knight was also recognized through selection as Officer of the Year.
September - December 2020
Thanks to the generosity of the Elks National Foundation Spotlight Grant - we used the $2,000 grant money, plus donations from our Lodge members ($335.66) to purchase 1,746 pounds of "hard-fill" items for all nine of the local food banks in the Kitsap FoodBank Coalition.
We also hosted a food drive at the Lodge from. September 2, 2020 - December 31, 2020. Through this drive we donated an additional 545 pounds of food to local food banks.

Supporting Our Veterans
Thanks to the generosity of the Elks National Foundation we have been awarded the $2,500 Freedom Grant to host a Christmas dinner at Retsil Veteran's Retirement Home in December for around 300 residents of the Retsil Veteran Resident Care Center and Building 9 for Veterans program. The Building 9 for Veterans program is a transitional housing model designed to provide safe and stable housing for both male and female homeless veterans who are committed to returning to employment and/or independent living.
We can't wait to get started and give these deserving men and women the special holiday meal they deserve.

Bremerton Elks Lodge #1181 Leadership made the difficult decision to close our Lodge during the COVID-19 outbreak. Just after that decision was made, Washington State Governor Inslee closed all restaurants and social gathering sites (among other things). Bremerton Elks Lodge #1181 is acting in compliance with Grand Lodge closure requirements and hopes to be able to reopen again as soon as COVID-19 is under control.
We appreciate your patience during this difficult time. Rest assured that we continue to work behind the scenes to help our community during this time of hardship. If you have questions please contact us via email and we will get back with you as soon as possible.
If you would like to help, check out our Gratitude Grant "Match" program that supports the Kitsap County Food Bank Coalition on our Dues and Donations page.
Take care and stay healthy!
